Pakistan Embassy Organizes Kashmir Discussion, Stresses Peaceful Resolution Through Dialogue

5th August, Kathmandu: The Embassy of Pakistan in Nepal organised an interactive discussion in Kathmandu on Wednesday on the theme of "The Political Future of Kashmir: Legal, Diplomatic and Strategic Perspectives." According to the embassy, the event was attended by journalists, writers, analysts and human rights advocates.

Messages from Pakistan's President, Prime Minister,Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister were presented during the programme.In his message, President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan's continued moral, political and diplomatic support for the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

He stated that Pakistan would continue to raise the Kashmir issue at international forums in line with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He further stressed that a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is essential for achieving lasting and just peace in South Asia.

Similarly Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar said India should refrain from actions that undermine the internationally recognized disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir. He alleged that the issuance of more than 3.4 million domicile certificates in the region was aimed at altering its demographic composition. He also expressed concern over the prolonged detention of Kashmiri political leaders.

Addressing the event, Pakistan's Ambassador to Nepal, Mohammad Aamir Khan, voiced concern over the humanitarian situation in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, alleged demographic changes, and restrictions on the media. He said lasting peace in South Asia would remain elusive until the dispute is resolved in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

According to the embassy, participants in the discussion expressed solidarity with the people of Kashmir, emphasized the importance of respecting human rights, and called for all disputes between India and Pakistan to be resolved through peaceful dialogue.
